Google, earlier this year in March, launched an experimental generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) Mode on its Search applications. It was limited to select regions including the US. Now, it has finally made its way to India.
The new AI Mode is powered by Google's latest custom version of the Gemini 2.5 large language AI model. It is capable of understanding complex queries in text and voice, and delivers the most accurate response possible.
The new AI Mode offers a much better user experience than just listing websites for answers. Users can ask anything, and the conversation with AI Mode will be akin to two people speaking with each other.
The User can ask multiple follow-up questions. Google says AI Mode works on the query fan-out technique. It breaks the user's question into subtopics and club other related queries simultaneously to dive deeper into the web to deliver hyper-relevant content that matches the user's question.

It can even deliver a Knowledge Graph, information about the real world. If you are looking for an item to buy, it can also offer shopping data for billions of products.
Further, Google Lens also get AI Mode. Users will be able to use their mobile's camera to ask the Google search app for answers.
This launch is part of our long-term vision to make finding and accessing information even more effortless on Search. With our latest advancements in AI, we've seen people turn to Google Search to tackle increasingly complex and nuanced questions. AI Overviews, now used by over 1.5 billion users every month, is a testament to this evolution. In our biggest markets like the U.S. and India, it’s already driving a more than 10% increase in usage for the types of queries where they appear. AI Mode expands what AI Overviews can do with more advanced reasoning, thinking and multimodal capabilities.Hema Budaraju vice president, product management, Search, Google

For instance, you get a pet fish with a bowl aquarium bowl and don't know how to maintain it, you can just click a photo and upload it to Google search. Depending on fish species, it will offer a step-by-step guide and tips on food recommendations and if required, a filter to clean the water regularly and also accessories such as live plants, decorative pebbles and more.
AI Mode for the Google search app is now available on both iPhones and Android mobiles.
Since it is an experimental feature, it can only be accessed by signing in to Google Labs (here) to try out AI Mode in Google Search.
