In late June, Google launched experimental version of generative Artificial Intelligence (gen AI))-powered AI Mode in Google Search in India. However, it was limited to select people who signed up with Google Labs.
Now the AI Mode is available to all users in the subcontinent. There is no need to sign up for Google Labs. Anybody with the Google Search app on an iPhone or an Android mobile or Chrome on a desktop can access AI Mode.
As noted earlier, AI Mode is powered by Google's latest custom version of the Gemini 2.5 large language AI model.
It is the most advanced multi-modal gen AI feature and is capable of understanding complex queries in text and voice, and promises to deliver the most accurate response possible.
Beyond just listing the websites to queries, it can answer in simple English or any supported language so that users get the right answer.
You can type, use your voice, or even snap a photo with Lens to get a rich, comprehensive response with helpful links, and dig deeper with follow-up questions. Interacting with AI Mode on Google Search will be akin to two people speaking with each other.
For instance, users tap on the AI Mode on the Google Search app and ask Where is Hampi. It will show the details of the location, and the User can ask multiple follow-up questions, such as key pointers on how many people visit one of India's most historical ancient cities of Karnataka.
The AI Mode works on the query fan-out technique. It breaks the user's question into subtopics and clusters other related queries simultaneously to dive deeper into the web to deliver hyper-relevant content that matches the user's question.
It can even deliver a Knowledge Graph, information about the real world. If you are looking for an item to buy, it can also offer shopping data for billions of products.
Further, Google Lens also get AI Mode. Users will be able to use their mobile camera to ask the Google search app for answers.
