New security vulnerabilities detected in Google Chrome; here's how to plug loopholes

With more than 3.5 billion active users, Chrome is one of the most popular browsers worldwide.

This also attracts cyber criminals to prey on naive computer users. While people are advised to exercise caution when working on the internet and avoid venturing deep into the darknet, platform owners are also equally responsible for setting up robust security to protect their users.

In the latest instance, the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has flagged several new security vulnerabilities in Google Chrome.

If they are not fixed soon enough, threat actors can exploit the loopholes to attack and take over targeted systems in a corporate company or in government agencies and cause a denial of service. This will cause widespread shutdown of online services.

Google has acknowledged the issue and has announced to rollout of new updates-- v137.0.7151.119/.120 for Windows, Mac and v137.0.7151.119 for Linux, which will roll out over the coming days or weeks.

Computer users who use the Chrome app are advised to update to the latest version as soon as possible.

Here's how to update to the latest version of Chrome on your computer

Just go to the Chrome menu (three dots), select 'Help', then 'About Google Chrome', and Chrome will automatically check for updates and install them.

Once downloaded, it will ask to relaunch the browser to complete the installation process. Comply with the request and reload the Chrome app.

Also, Google has rewarded independent cyber experts who first flagged the security vulnerabilities in Chrome. Shaheen Fazim has been awarded $7000, and Chaoyuan Peng (@ret2happy) will receive $4,000.
