Though Google was a bit late to join the generative AI race, it has gotten on par with OpenAI's ChatGPT, Anthropic's Claude AI and Perplexity AI. Gemini AI now comes pre-installed in millions of new Android phones worldwide.

Google's long-time mobile phone partner Samsung offers Gemini AI features on all its phones. They even get highlighted more in Google events than the Pixel devices.

Now, a report has emerged that Samsung may sign a new AI deal with a Google rival.

The South Korean technology major is in talks with Aravind Srinivas' Perplexity to offer the latter's gen AI tools on Galaxy phones, reported Bloomberg citing company insiders.

Similar to Microsoft's backing of OpenAI, Samsung is said to be interested in investing in Perplexity Labs.

It is believed that the Samsung Galaxy phones' Operating System One UI will be deeply integrated with Perplexity AI to deliver the best user experience.

Also, it will be able to run the search engine on Samsung's browser and also power Samsung's Bixby assistant as well.

It is possible that Samsung may offer the option to device owners to replace Gemini AI with Perplexity AI to run Galaxy AI features.

This is a big move by Samsung. By partnering with Perplexity, the South Korean company will surely take a big lead over Apple's rather slow approach to bringing AI features to its iPhones.

Samsung is expected to make a formal announcement of a partnership with Perplexity Labs later this year.

If things go as planned, the Galaxy S26 series slated for launch in late January or early February in 2026, will come with Perplexity AI features.
