Bangladesh's IFIC Bank had filed the case against the ace cricketer-cum-former politician.

An official of the bank told AFP, "The court has previously summoned Shakib but he did not appear at the court", adding, "now, the court has issued the warrant."

Notably Shakib belonged to deposed Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's party, the Awami League, and was a member of the country's Parliament till the same was dissolved after Hasina fled the country.

The publication reports that Shakib, among other Awami League members, was a target of public anger after hundreds of lives were lost during the student protests in the country last year.

He was also reportedly facing murder investigations, but has not been charged over such allegations.

The latest troubles for the cricketer comes after he was suspended from bowling after failing an independent re-assessment post the suspension issued by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) said on Saturday.

"While Shakib is currently unable to bowl, he is eligible to continue playing as a batsman in all forms of domestic and international cricket," the BCB said in a statement.

In 2019, Shakib had received a two-year ban from playing after the International Cricket Council found he had breached its anti-corruption code.
