On Saturday (local time), shooting took place at Brown University in the US The incident killed two people and left eight were critically injured, the mayor of Providence, Rhode Island informed news agency Reuters.

Three hours after it began, students continued to hide in their dorms and classrooms on the campus in Providence, Rhode Island, the New York Times reported.

Mayor Brett Smiley initially told media outlets the police were looking for a suspect, a male dressed in black. Soon, President Trump shared that the suspect was taken into custody.

Issuing an emergency alert, the varsity said, "We are very sorry to share that we have confirmed reports of two deceased victims from the active shooting situation at the Barus & Holley engineering building. There are eight additional victims in critical, but stable condition at the hospital. There remains a shelter in place order."

The shooting was reported around 4:22 pm (2122 GMT).

President Donald Trump responded to the shooting and stated that he had been briefed on the shooting. He also informed the FBI was already on the scene. "The FBI is on the scene. The suspect is in custody," he wrote on social media.

The US President prayed for the lost lives, "God bless the victims and the families of the victims!"
