The 48-year-old woman identified as Catherine Kieu Becker was held on a USD one million bail and police said the woman drugged the meal and served it to her husband before she attacked him on Monday night, 'Los Angeles Times' reported.
The Garden Grove police where the incident happened said the 51-year-old husband who was not identified felt sick after the meal, went to lie down and lost consciousness.
Becker then removed his clothes and attacked him with a 10 inch knife as he awoke. "The man was conscious, but helpless as his organ was chopped off", police said. Later the woman put the severed organ in the garbage disposal.
The victim was rushed to the hospital where he underwent surgery and was reported to be in serious condition. He is expected to survive, hospital sources said.
The couple was reportedly in the process of divorce.Becker was arrested on suspicion of aggravated mayhem, assault with a deadly weapon, administering a drug with intent to commit a felony, poisoning and spousal abuse.
If she's convicted on the mayhem charge, she faces up to a life sentence with the possibility of parole.
She was being held at the Orange County Jail and was expected to appear in court in the coming days.
The couple had been married for a year and half. Court records show they began divorce proceedings in May. The record suggests that the husband initiated the divorce.
Lt Jeff Nightengale of the Garden Grove Police Department said police were aware of the divorce case but didn't have a clear motive for the crime.
