US President Donald Trump slammed Canada on Friday for opposing Greenland "Golden Dome". Taking to his Truth Social account, he said Canada has voted in favour of doing business with China, who will "eat them up".
"Canada is against The Golden Dome being built over Greenland, even though The Golden Dome would protect Canada. Instead, they voted in favor of doing business with China, who will 'eat them up' within the first year!" Trump wrote.
As per a report by ANI, Trump's statement comes after a recent remark by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos.
"We've secured a new trade agreement with China — unlocking more than $7 billion in export markets for Canadian workers and businesses," a post on his X account read.
On Wednesday at the WEF, Trump took a jibe at Carney and said that Canada gets "freebies" from the US, and how they are "not grateful".
"Canada gets a lot of freebies from us, by the way. They should also be grateful, but they're not. I saw your Prime Minister yesterday; he wasn't so grateful. They should be grateful to us," Trump said, as per ANI report.
He further added that his plan of "Golden Dome" missile defence system will protect Canada.
"Canada lives because of the United States. Remember that, Mark, the next time you make your statements," he added.
Later in a statement by Canadian PM's office, it said that "Canada is building a stronger, more independent, and more resilient economy." It added, "As the worlds second largest economy, China presents enormous opportunities for Canada in this mission."
As reported by CBS News, Canada has agreed to cut tariff on Chinese electric vehicles, in break with the United States.
Canada will cut its 100 per cent tariff on Chinese electric cars in return for lower tariffs on farm products from Canada, the publication reported.
