The Seoul Western District Court has upheld the detention of impeached South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, as per AP. Earlier, South Korea's Corruption Investigation Office for High-Ranking Officials had requested a court warrant from the Seoul Western District Court on Monday to detain impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol, according to the news outlet's report.
Yoon Kap-keun, the president's lawyer, had denounced the detention attempt and filed a challenge with the same court, arguing that the warrant request was invalid.
Han Min-soo, spokesperson of the liberal opposition Democratic Party, had called for the court to issue the warrant, saying Yoon Suk Yeol's detainment would be the first step toward “ending the rebellion and restoring normalcy.”
