Dissident IRA car bomb defused at Belfast airport

Police say British Army experts dismantled the device this morning. They determined the bomb was principally made of drums of fuel, not conventional explosive, but was viable.

IRA splinter groups seeking to undermine Northern Ireland's Catholic-Protestant government have detonated a half-dozen car bombs this year outside police stations, a courthouse, a bank and the Northern Ireland base of the British MI5 spy agency.

Police yesterday said they seized another dissident bomb planted beneath a rail bridge. The bomb was packed in a beer keg and contained 90 pounds (40 kg) of explosives.
