Prosecutor-general Abdul Magid Mahmud ordered the "preventative measures" until the "end of the inquiry" initiated by his office into suspected misappropriation of public funds, the agency said.
In the wake of unprecedented anti-government demonstrations in Egypt, the prosecutor-general has ordered the same measures be taken against former interior minister Habib al-Adly and business magnate Ahmed Ezz.
Newly-appointed Prime Minister Ahmed Shafiq has also said that Adly is under investigation.
Rashid lost his post last Saturday when embattled President Hosni Mubarak ordered the dissolution of his cabinet in response to the ongoing demonstrations calling for the ouster of his regime.He was replaced by Samiha Fawzi Ibrahim.
