US President Donald Trump on Tuesday posted an AI-generated image map of the United States that includes Canada, Greenland and Venezuela.
In the photo, Trump is seen having a meeting with NATO leaders with the map in the background at the Oval Office. Leaders including French President Emmanuel Macron, Italy's Giorgia Meloni, UK PM Keir Starmer President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, among others are seen in the picture.
In a separate post, Trump posted an AI-generated picture of himself, Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio planting the US flag on a piece of land that reads "Greenland, US territory, Est. 2026."
Trump's Canada, Greenland ambitions
Ever since Trump took office for a second term in January last year, Trump has sought to make Canada US' 51st state, along with eying Greenland.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney in May last year firmly rejected Trump's suggestion that Canada become the 51st US state, stating, "It's important to distinguish wants from reality."
Trump's push for Greenland has grown since the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. The US president has on several occasions said Greenland will be a part of his territory, and has not shied away from threatening a military action in the Danish territory.
On Tuesday, the 79-year-old President held a telephone conversation with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte about Greenland and said he would meet several parties in Davos terming the land as integral for American and world security at large.
Trump has made the post only hours after the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) said that the US is set to deploy aircraft to a key military base in Greenland.
According to NORAD, the aircraft "will soon arrive" at Pituffik Space Base to support various long-planned activities.
"Along with aircraft operating from bases in the continental United States and Canada, they will support various long-planned NORAD activities, building on the enduring defense cooperation between the United States and Canada, as well as the Kingdom of Denmark," the command said in a post on X.
It added that the development was coordinated with Denmark and that Greenland's government was informed in advance.
"This activity has been coordinated with the Kingdom of Denmark, and all supporting forces operate with the requisite diplomatic clearances. The Government of Greenland is also informed of planned activities," they added.
Trump also imposed 10 per cent tariffs, effective February 1, on eight European countries who have come out in support of Greenland and Denmark.
Trump's Venezuela claim
on January 3, US forces attacked Venezuela and captured President Nicolas Maduro. Shortly after the act, Trump said that the US will take control of the the South American country "until such time as we can do a safe, proper, and judicious transition".
He had also stated that the US will get 300 million barrels of oil from Venezuela and sell it at market price, the money of which will be used for the benefits of both the US and Venezuelan people.
A few days later, Trump also posted a picture of his own Wikipedia page which mentioned him as the "Acting President of Venezuela".
