The 2025 Global Peace Index (GPI) ranks 163 nations based on 23 indicators, including militarisation, internal and external conflicts, homicide rates, and terrorism. Here are the world’s 10 safest countries this year, along with what makes them secure -

Iceland

Ireland

New Zealand

By contrast, India ranked 115th, Pakistan 144th, and Russia came last among the 163 nations assessed. The 2025 GPI highlights how long-term policies, social cohesion, and effective governance can create a culture of safety that citizens experience every day.
