"The tentatively scheduled informal briefing of the executive board has been postponed pending further developments in New York," IMF spokesman William Murray said in a statement yesterday. He did not offer any details.

Strauss-Kahn was arrested yesterday and charged with a sexual assault and attempted rape on a chambermaid in the luxury Sofitel hotel in New York, near Times Square.
The 62-year-old IMF chief was expected to be arraigned before a New York judge later Sunday.

The IMF announced earlier that John Lipsky, its first deputy managing director, had been appointed acting managing director while Strauss-Kahn was outside Washington.

It also said that Nemat Shafik, the deputy managing director who oversees the IMF's work in several European Union countries, will attend Monday's Eurogroup meeting in Brussels instead of Strauss-Kahn.
