Berlin: The German Parliament will hold a second vote to elect a new chancellor at 3:15 pm (1315 GMT), senior conservative Jens Spahn told reporters on Tuesday, appealing to parties to back Friedrich Merz after he failed to get through in a first round.

"The whole of Europe, perhaps the whole world, is watching this election," Spahn said. "I appeal to everyone to be aware of this special responsibility."
