A young girl from Yangzhou City in China had been vomiting live worms for a month.
According to a report in South China Morning Post, the eight-year-old girl was throwing up 1-cm long worms regularly.
Though she was taken to many doctors, nobody was able to provide a proper diagnosis.
Finally, a doctor from the Children’s Hospital of Soochow University in Jiangsu turned out to to be the savior.
The 'miracle' doctor suggested that they get the worm analysed at the local Centre for Disease Control and Prevention.
The staff immediately recognised the worm, matching it with worms they had once found in a 60-year-old woman.
Xu Yuhui, a department chief at the Yangzhou Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, explained that the drain flies’ larvae had contaminated the running underground water.
“When the child brushes her teeth or flushes the toilet, the worms might enter her system through splashes of water,” Xu said.
After seeing the revelations made by the hospital, many took to online to express concern over the development.
“This news really scares me. We have a lot of drain flies in our toilet. I even killed many with my hands,” one person said.
“They used to be my nightmare, all over my toilet and even flew into the living room. I had to use disinfectant to kill them,” said another.
