Pakistani fashion designer and actor Deepak Perwani has found himself amid controversy after he admitted that India is doing better than Pakistan as he drew comparison between the two countries in his interview with Something Haute.

"I was thinking I should have run 15 years back," the designer was heard saying in an interview where he added that Indians have it better as there is a sense of happiness in the country, women walk on the roads, ride bikes, even 'pain puri' vendors have tabs.

Saying that India is not a concrete jungle and is "far more dynamic", Perwani said that while he is thankful that Lahore is developed, Karachi still has a long way to go.

Fascinated by the colours he saw in India, Perwani said that the fashion is "absolutely gorgeous" in India as he specifically named Jaipur and Jodhpur.

Expressing his disappointment to see foreigners in India who were taking inspiration from the fashion there, he asked: "What are we doing?"

While several social media users agreed with Deepak's statements and he got a lot of love from India in the comment section, he was also criticised for badmouthing his own country.

"I have an old picture of Karachi when women were riding motorbikes. And I also have a picture of Mumbai being Bombay, and people were happy to have a mosque beside a temple! Things have changed in both countries, and disappointments are everywhere. But if you like that country more, don't badmouth, MOVE OUT!!(sic)", wrote one user, while another said: "He needs to move to India and spare us!"

This is not the only time the actor-designer has called out Pakistan over its lack of development.

In a recent post on X, Perwani shared a video from Karachi where he called the city an ugly concrete jungle.

"Apparently this one’s up for demolition or what’s left of it . As we move forward our identity dies . #karachi #sindh . There are no stories to tell no history to remember . Just ugly concrete jungle that’s #karachi #pakistan," he posted on X.
