Terrorists struck at heavily-guarded PNS Mehran Sunday night and destroyed two surveillance aircraft. The 15-hour long siege ended Monday afternoon after all the terrorists were killed. Ten security personnel died in the audacious attack.

Bashir said Monday: “We are trying to relocate the naval base and other vital installations away from residential areas."

Associated Press of Pakistan quoted the top naval official as saying that the effective security of naval facilities was becoming difficult due to thickly-crowded residential areas around the Mehran base.

He explained that when the naval installations were planned and built, they were away from the city. There has now been a rapid growth of residential areas around the base.
Referring to the attack, the officer said that the response time from naval commandos was three minutes.

He added that the attackers were highly trained and had sophisticated weapons like RPG launchers.
