Amsterdam: The Netherlands will hold an election following the collapse of the government, outgoing Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof said on Wednesday.

Schoof said there was broad support in parliament for a snap election and added that his caretaker government would set a date soon.

The election is not expected to be held before October, based on previous election cycles.
