The Supreme court will consider the move on April 17, the state-run RIA news agency said.

Russia, which has long included the Taliban on a list of banned terrorist organisations, has been gradually building ties with the movement.

President Vladimir Putin said in July last year that the Taliban was now an ally in fighting terrorism.
