A senior officer of the Children and Women bureau of the police told PTI that their latest study of mature sex sites showed there were about 50 sites that could be accessed by Sri Lankans.
"We are going to get ISPs (local Internet Service Providers) to block access to these 50 sites," the official said asking not to be named. He said courts have allowed the blocking of a total of 840 porn sites since early last year.
Initially the police blocked sites featuring local men and women and then extended it to child pornographic sites.
Yesterday, newspaper editors refused to publish mug shots of 85 men and women wanted by police for violating the country's obscenity laws amid fears of privacy infringements.
Last year, the government of President Mahinda Rajapakse had launched the crackdown following a court order to block a dozen porn sites for allegedly featuring Sri Lankan men and women.
