A recent video shared by travel content creator Grant Barnes, has been making several rounds of the internet wherein he says that a Thai island’s beach is full of human excreta.
The Thai island, Koh Phangan, is a famous tourist attraction and also well renowned for its monthly Full Moon Party. The island being the apt place for partygoers from all around the world has been subjected to severe environmental damage.
Citing local news reports, Barnes claimed that the beach water was ‘filthy’ and urged tourists not to jump into the water, as intoxicated tourists openly urinated and defecated there.
“See that beautiful beach behind me,full of poop," he said in the video, showing the pristine beach.
In the video, Barnes said that the water may look appealing but it is far from clean, thus highlighting the poor sewage system of the island.
He also added that the island was unable to handle the huge influx of tourists during the Full Moon Parties. Eventually the sewage gets discharged into the ocean, thus resulting in degraded water quality and also harming the marine ecosystem.
Barnes said, “So, a top tip: don’t go into the water during the Full Moon Party. Even local media have reported on the filthy condition of the water, calling it “foaming black water."
The video has received several reactions, wherein one user said, “This is heartbreaking. We must hold tourists accountable for their actions!”
Another frustrated user wrote, “Where is the government in all this? They need to step up.”
“That beach is wreeecckkeeddd during and after those full moon parties!!!! So sad. And so gross!!!!” writes another.
based on personal experience, a user wrote, "I've been in Thailand and most of the beaches were full of rubbish. I was not expecting that much dirt. I hope Thailand improves the quality of the locals people's life and makes the environment more sustainable."
