Ankara: Turkey's Interior Ministry said on Sunday that Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu has been removed from duty after a Turkish court formally arrested him on graft charges.

Istanbul Municipality's council, where the main opposition CHP has the majority, is expected to elect an acting mayor in coming days, after Imamoglu's removal. Two other district mayors have also been removed, the ministry said.
