Alexander Khinshtein, writing on the Telegram messaging app, said the drone struck the village of Obesta, 5 km (3 miles) from the border, next to a local club.

Ukrainian forces staged a mass incursion into Kursk region nearly a year ago, initially seizing large chunks of territory before Russia mounted a large-scale operation to expel them. North Korean troops were deployed in the region.

Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin said in April that all Ukrainian forces had been expelled. But Ukrainian commanders have continued to say in recent weeks that some of their troops have maintained positions in the area.
