In a tragic incident, a US immigration agent killed a female resident of Minneapolis. Videos taken by eye-witnesses soon began to circulate on social media platforms, and the incident was reported as the latest violent incident during President Donald Trump's nationwide curtailment on migrants.
The authorities identified her as Renee Nicole Good (37), and she lived with her partner in the Twin Cities. Her mother, in an interview with The Minnesota Star Tribune, shared she was "extremely compassionate" and not the type to confront the immigration agents.
In the videos, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents are seen firing bullets at the car Good was driving. The car accelerated and then crashed, as reported by The New York Times, after which the agent who fired approached the victim's vehicle, then walked away and informed the other agents to call 911.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey rejected the Trump administration's claims that the agent fired in self-defense, saying video of the shooting directly disputed what he called the government's "garbage narrative."
"They're already trying to spin this as an action of self-defense," Frey said at a press conference. "Having seen the video myself, I want to tell everybody directly - that is bullshit."
Frey blamed federal immigration agents for sowing chaos in the city, telling ICE: "Get the fuck out of Minneapolis." But he also urged residents to remain calm.
Trump took to Truth Social to defend the ICE agents involved, calling the woman a "a professional agitator," claiming that the agent shot her as an act of "self defense".
"It is a horrible thing to watch. The woman screaming was, obviously, a professional agitator, and the woman driving the car was very disorderly, obstructing and resisting, who then violently, willfully, and viciously ran over the ICE Officer, who seems to have shot her in self defense. Based on the attached clip, it is hard to believe he is alive, but is now recovering in the hospital," the post read.
"The situation is being studied, in its entirety, but the reason these incidents are happening is because the Radical Left is threatening, assaulting, and targeting our Law Enforcement Officers and ICE Agents on a daily basis. They are just trying to do the job of MAKING AMERICA SAFE. We need to stand by and protect our Law Enforcement Officers from this Radical Left Movement of Violence and Hate," he continued to write.
The tragedy drew hundreds of protesters into the streets near the scene, some of whom were met by heavily armed federal agents wearing gas masks who fired chemical irritants.
