In the wake of the devastating plane crash in South Korea's Muan airport that killed at least 151 people, reports of an aircraft catching fire in Canada's Halifax airport on Sunday have emerged.

According to a report by CBC News, the aircraft, scheduled to arrive at the Halifax airport from St. John's, faced technical difficulties while landing, which resulted in it skidding down the runway and part of it catching fire. The Halifax airport has temporarily been closed following the incident.

The aircraft in question was Air Canada Flight 2259, operated by PAL Airlines, as per a statement released by the airport.

Nikki Valentine, a passenger on the flight, revealed that one of the tyres of the plane did not deploy properly upon landing.

"The plane started to sit at about a 20-degree angle to the left and, as that happened, we heard a pretty loud - what almost sounded like a crash sound - as the wing of the plane started to skid along the pavement, along with what I presume was the engine," she told CBC News.

"The plane shook quite a bit and we started seeing fire on the left side of the plane and smoke started coming in the windows," she added.

According to Valentine, the aircraft could accommodate around 80 passengers, with two seats on either side of the aisle and roughly 20 rows of seats.
