US President Donald Trump has a nick for staying in the headlines. This time, the Republican did so by posting an AI-generated video of former president Barack Obama on his Truth Social account on Monday.
The AI-generated video shows Obama getting arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in the White House.
The video begins with Obama saying, "Especially the President is above the law". It then shows several American politicians including former president Joe Biden saying that "no one is above the law."
Later in the fake video, Trump and Obama can be seen sitting in the White House when two FBI officers appear to arrest the latter. Trump can be seen smiling while Obama is being pinned down by the officials.
The video ends with Barack Obama, wearing an orange costume, in a jail cell.
This comes days after Tulsi Gabbard, the Director of National Intelligence issued the latest in a series of reports from the Trump administration attempting to undermine the 8-year-old assessment that Russia favoured the election of Donald Trump in 2016.
Gabbard said the information she was releasing showed a “treasonous conspiracy in 2016” by top Obama administration officials to harm Trump and added that the former US president should be tried over such claims.
The AI video generated a flurry of comments from social media users with some asking "whether Obama will be arrested?"
"Criminal prosecution after presidency. While sitting Presidents have certain legal immunities for criminal prosecution, after leaving office, a former President can be charged and prosecuted for treason or other crimes," wrote a user.
"This is comical considering what Obama has been caught doing... but they all knew that it was a fabricated deceitful treasonous/seditious act. So what will they come up with now to distract from this crime," added another.
