On July 4, as the US celebrated Independence Day, Elon Musk did a poll asking people whether he should start a political party. And about a day later, he announced something big! What netizens believed was just a thought, had turned into reality, with the billionaire setting up his own party. He named it the 'America Party'.
Curious to know everything about Elon Musk's America Party? We have you covered.
What's America Party?
According to Musk, this political party is a means to "keep the democracy alive" and bestow voters with "freedom".
"Independence Day is the perfect time to ask if you want independence from the two-party (some would say uni-party) system," he wrote on X.
"Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom," he added in another post.
Seats
Musk explained that his party would target a few key seats in Congress. He stated America Party would keep a "laser-focus" and eye on three or three Senate seats and eight to 10 House districts.
Goal
This newly-formed party comes with the goal to hit majority and form the deciding vote.
Till date a businessman, and now a politician, Musk looks forward to challenge the Republican and Democratic parties.
The America Party would aim to make a mark by keeping both the existing parties from getting a majority in Congress.
Can Musk be the next US President?
With Musk's big update, the internet is discussing whether he is running for the next presidential seat as the announcement of the new party came shortly after President Donald Trump's 'Big Beautiful Bill' became a law. The bill had caused disagreements between the two.
When questioned of Musk making it to the 2028 US elections, things seem to be unlikely for the America Party founder as he was born in South Africa.
He is not identified as a 'natural-born citizen', while he acquired a US Citizenship in 2002.
