Keladi Chennamma on small screen soon

At a juncture when the viewership for TV serials based on life of historical characters has dropped drastically, noted film director and Karnataka Film Academy President T S Nagabharana has taken the risk of coming up with a new historical serial based on the life of queen Keladi Chennamma.

Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the art camp inauguration camp at Sanchayagiri in B C Road, Nagabharana said that despite the lack of demand for historical serials, he has taken up the task of making a TV serial on Keladi Chennamma to inform the less known facts about the queen to the Kannadigas.

Informing about the serial, he said that initially he had plans to produce the serial on the life story of Keladi Shivappa Nayaka. However, on learning about interesting facts about life of Keladi Chennamma who was the daughter-in-law of Nayaka, Nagabharana decided to work on a serial based on her life.

“Three years of research on Chennamma’s life has given me inputs enough to bring the queen to life on the Television. Most of the information on the life of Chennamma was available in the epigraphs in possession with Keladi Gunda Jois. Chennamma, was a queen with great courage. If there is any woman ruler in the world history who ruled for 26 years, it is none other than Chennamma. The serial will showcase, the childhood, the troubled personal life, tenure as the queen of Chennamma,” said Nagabharana.

He also informed that the shooting for the serial will start in January and he has introduced all fresh faces in this new venture. The serial would be telecast after two months.
