Appeal to open Shiradi Ghat for buses, 6-wheel lorries

Shiradi Malenadu Janahitha Rakshana Vedike members submit a memorandum to Dakshina Kannada Additional DC Kumar on Tuesday.

Demanding to open Shiradi Ghat for buses and six-wheel goods lorries, Shiradi Malenadu Janahitha Rakshana Vedike members submitted a memorandum to Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil through Additional Deputy Commissioner Kumar.

A delegation led by Vedike members met the Additional DC on Tuesday and said that to bring the issue of inconvenience to the people with the closure of Shiradi Ghat for heavy vehicles, a protest will be staged at Gundya on September 22.

Traffic on Shiradi Ghat has been prohibited citing safety issues. In spite of it, no repair work is being taken up on the stretch, which has raised doubts over the dangerous
locations on the stretch, said the members in a memorandum.

The memorandum said, “The petty shops eke out their living on the business they get from highway passengers. Now, they are in distress. Lorry drivers and owners who transport vegetables and other goods on the Shiradi Ghat are also in distress.”

Further, the memorandum said that the closure of the road for buses has affected the devotees visiting Dharmasthala and Subrahmanya Temples.

Shiradi Malenadu Janahitha Rakshana Vedike convener Kishor Shiradi and others were present.
