The decision on OCI cardholders was taken after the government found out that a number of teaching posts in these institutes were lying vacant due to the shortage of eligible candidates.
Officials in the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said the order specifying that a person registered as an OCI cardholder under Section 7A of the Citizenship Act, 1955 will be eligible for appointment as teaching faculty in the Indian Institute of Science and the new AIIMS in various places.
At least 22 new AIIMS are coming up across the country. Union Health Minister J P Nadda had earlier said there was a shortage of skilled human resource in the health sector.
