JD(S) proposes, AAP disposes

Last Updated 08 August 2015, 04:16 IST

JD(S) national president H D Deve Gowda on Friday wrote to AAP national convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, seeking the fledgling political outfit’s support to his party in the BBMP elections.

The JD(S), which has made corruption its focal issue in fighting the polls, has reached out to like-minded parties to overthrow the BJP and Congress, he said. Kejriwal had at one point reached out to Gowda to support his party in fighting corruption. In this context, he had written to the AAP leader, hoping that both the parties could work towards a common cause, added Gowda. He also sent a message to Kejriwal, requesting a telephonic conversation with him in this regard.

AAP Karnataka is, however, not amused by this new development. Terming it “political opportunism” on the part of the JD(S), AAP’s national executive member Prithvi Reddy said that his party didn’t believe in alliances with any political party across the nation. “We want to offer an alternative and not offer substitutes to other parties. If there wasn’t rampant corruption in the existing political parties, then there was no need for us to form the AAP. If these parties can give what people are looking for, then we are happy to sit at home,” he added.

He also said that JD(S)’s “oath of integrity” looked similar to the AAP’s manifesto.
