<p>The New Delhi Municipal Council has again decided to introduce the biometric system for marking the attendance of its employees. NDMC first introduced the system in 2009 but was forced to withdraw it in the face of opposition from staff members.<br /><br /></p>.<p>Typically, biometric attendance recording systems read fingerprints. The system will be integrated with other applications to manage human resources of the civic body. <br /><br />Officials working on the project said the GIS (Geographic Information System)-enabled biometric cards will not only record attendance but also help the administration in monitoring and deployment of the employees. <br /><br />“The facility is likley to become functional by April 1. The swiping machines will be at 27 locations where the staff members could log in and log out. Since the cards would be GIS-enabled, it will give the detail of the location where an employee is working,” said O P Mishra, Director (IT), NDMC. <br /><br />The supervisors will also carry hand-held swiping sets. The staff members will not have to visit specific locations to mark their attendance, the official said. NDMC departments will provide services like issuing birth certificates and electricity connections in a time-bound manner. Eight critical services have now been placed under the Service Level Agreement (SLA). <br /><br />The services include issuing birth and death certificates, providing health licences, booking of parks, community halls and barat ghars for events, etc.</p>
