<p>To ensure better civic amenities to residents of 895 recently regularised colonies, Delhi Cabinet on Monday has decided to set up development work in the colonies.<br /><br /></p>.<p>The cabinet meeting chaired by chief minister Sheila Dikshit took the decision on Monday. <br />While briefing the media after the Cabinet meeting, Dikshit said with recent regularisation of 895 colonies it has become essential to speed up development work and the Cabinet has decided to enhance the ambit of work in all these colonies.<br /><br />According to norms, roads and drains can only be relayed or repaired after a stipulated duration of their expected life has passed. <br /><br />Scope<br /><br />Dikshit said the scope of plan scheme of development work in unauthorised colonies does not specifically cover the repair works. <br /><br />However, it’s now decided that the executing agencies should be allowed to take <br />up repair work according to need and priority, the CM added.<br /><br />“As the condition of existing civic amenities is getting worst from bad, the Cabinet decided to allow the agencies to take up repair works to ensure an effective, long-lasting and well established amenities,” said Dikshit.<br /><br />It was also decided to utilise elected representatives’ local area development fund for the purpose.<br /><br />Government will not hesitate to take immediate action against obstacle coming in the way of the work, Dikshit said.<br /><br />The Cabinet allowed the education institutes functioning in non-conforming areas, to function for another academic year in the interest of the students.<br /><br />Delhi government has been extending the validity of no objection certificates (NOC) <br />issued to enable them to function on year to year basis since academic year 2007-08 with riders that there will be no increase in existing courses as well as addition of new courses. <br /><br />However, second shift may be allowed keeping in view the infrastructure. <br />The 10 institutes affiliated with Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University functioning from school premises, two more institutes functioning from rented buildings in other non-conforming areas, seven diploma level institutes and 14 institutes running on agriculture land will be allowed to function during academic year 2012-13.<br /><br />The Cabinet also approved a proposal of amendment in Delhi Water Board Act, 1998 Section 3 to provide nomination of board members in Delhi Jal Board (DJB) pursuant to trifurcation of MCD.<br /><br />“There is a provision to nominate two members of the then MCD by the Mayor in DJB. As with trifurcation the three corporations have come into existence. Hence, it has been proposed that one corporator each from the three corporations will be nominated to DJB,” Dikshit said.<br /></p>
