<p>The wife of a Delhi Police head constable attempted suicide by jumping in front of a running train at the Hauz Khas Metro station on Sunday morning. <br /><br /></p>.<p>The 39-year-old has sustained severe injuries and is undergoing treatment at AIIMS trauma centre.<br /><br />Police said the woman was under depression and was undergoing treatment for the problem. Police are, however, probing other possible reasons behind her decision to commit suicide. Her husband and children are being spoken to by a police team in a bid to ascertain the reasons.<br /><br />The woman Indrani lives with her husband and children in Hauz Khas’ police colony. Her husband Ajay Kumar serves as a head constable and is currently deployed at Malviya Nagar.<br /><br />The suicide attempt took place at around 11.30 am. The woman loitered around at the platform for sometime before suddenly running and taking a leap on the tracks while a train headed towards Jahangirpuri pulled into the station.<br /><br />“But the train operator noticed the woman jumping and applied the emergency brakes on time. It is because of the swift action that the woman is still alive,” a senior police officer told Deccan Herald.<br /><br />Some commuters rushed to her help while others informed the CISF personnel. She was rushed to AIIMS trauma centre where she is admitted into the intensive care unit (ICU). She has suffered severe head injuries and is yet to gain consciousness, said the officer.<br /><br />CCTV footage of the station platform ruled out any foul play in the incident. Neither was the woman pushed off by any other commuter, nor did she accidentally slip, said police.<br /><br />She was identified through an identity card found in her possession. Her husband was informed and he then told police about her depression and treatment.<br /><br />This year has already witnessed eight suicides at Delhi’s Metro stations. On the other hand, the entire last year had eight such cases of suicides. <br /><br />Apart from these, there are several failed attempts. CISF claims they have prevented a few from taking the fatal plunge by observing their mannerism on CCTV cameras.</p>
