<p>A government doctor was suspended on Friday for prescribing branded medicines in violation of the Rajasthan medical and health department directives.<br /><br /></p>.<p>Generic medicines are given to patients for free in state government hospitals under a free medicine scheme.<br /><br />A doctor can only prescribe branded medicines if generic ones are unavailable in hospital.Dr P C Tanwar, who was posted at a government hospital in Nokha in Bikaner, was suspended immediately, said principal secretary (medical and health) B N Sharma.<br /><br />“We got complaints that he had been prescribing branded medicines to patients, who bought them from the open market,” said Sharma.<br /><br />He said Dr Tanwar prescribed branded medicines although free generic ones were available in hospital.<br /></p>
