<p>A class 10 student of Delhi Public School, Mathura Road has moved the Delhi High Court after he was asked to leave the school for scoring average marks.<br /><br /></p>.<p>The hearing was supposed to take place on Friday, but it did not fall through as the lawyer for Delhi Public School cited personal reasons for not appearing in court.<br /><br />Abhishek has been studying in DPS since nursery. He wanted to pursue Science in class 11. But he scored 55 per cent, following which the school denied his desired subject combination of Physics, Chemistry and Maths, also referred to as ‘PCM’ in the school. <br /><br />“I don’t want to leave the school. I have been studying in DPS since the beginning. I am even ready to take up Humanities or Commerce because I do not have a specific demand as such,” said Abhishek.<br /><br />His parents approached the school several times to convince the authorities to admit their child to the next class, but were allegedly told that Abhishek will never to able to meet DPS expectations. They said the school feared Abhishek will bring down the school’s overall performance.<br /><br />Abhishek has also alleged that the school had taken an undertaking on paper saying that if he did not score well, he will not be given his choice of subjects.<br /><br /> “But it does not say that I will be denied admission in class 11 because of average marks,” he said.<br /><br />After several attempts to convince the school to give him a chance to perform better by retaining him, the family decided to approach the High Court.<br /><br />“According to a Supreme Court judgement, all schools have to comply with the Delhi Schools Education Act, which clearly states that once a child is given admission in any school, he or she will not be forced to leave the school by the authorities under any circumstances,” said Khagesh Jha, advocate and Right to Education activist.<br /><br />Despite several attempts, the principal of DPS, Mathura Road could not be contacted.</p>
