The plant is generally called ‘Gadde Karande’ and ‘Bodu Kadale Soppu’ in Kannada. Seeds are used as blood purifier, for cooling and in treatment of anemia and Asthma. The plants has aphrodisiac values. It is used to treat stomach and gastric disorders.  In Ayurveda, the plant is used to treat pain, jaundice, piles, worm infestation and fever. In Konkani, this plant is known as ‘Kalancho,’ ‘Adakkamaniyan’ and ‘Attakamani’ in Malayalam and ‘Mahamundi,’ ‘Mundi’ and Aruna in Sanskrit. Its scientific name is ‘Sphaeranthus Indicus’ and it belongs to Asteraceae family.
