AAP slams Cong over EC order on gas price

Last Updated 29 March 2014, 21:05 IST

Attacking the Congress for targeting the Election Commission for deferring the government's decision on gas pricing, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday alleged that the ruling party's “heart beats for Reliance Industries”, and not for the people.

In a statement, the AAP said the kind of language used by Jairam Ramesh and Anand Sharma in questioning the commission's decision is a clear indication that the Congress is not bothered about the adverse impact the doubling of gas prices would have on the lives of people.

The poll panel had recently asked the UPA government to defer notifying the doubling of price of the fuel produced by companies such as Reliance Industries till the general elections are completed.

The AAP accused the Congress-led UPA government of promoting “crony capitalism”, while stating that the two ministers have made an unsuccessful attempt to “defend an indefensible decision”.

“The kind of language used by Jairam Ramesh and Anand Sharma in questioning the EC’s decision is a clear indication that the Congress, which is headed for a rout in the Lok Sabha elections, is not bothered about the adverse impact the doubling of gas prices will have on the lives of people, already reeling under the intolerable price rise of essential commodities due to wrong policies of the UPA government,” said the statement.

It said the use of language by these ministers, that the EC is functioning like a parallel government and that it had extended its mandate, only shows that the Congress seems to have forgotten that their tenure is all but over, and the people of the country are set to elect a new government in less than two months.

Both Ramesh and Sharma need to be reminded that their government’s decision has been challenged in the Supreme Court, which is hearing the matter.
