As the Trinamool Congress government completed its three years in office on Tuesday, party chairperson and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee thanked the people of the state for giving her party an “overwhelming mandate”.

She also expressed happiness that her party received yet another chance to serve the people.

Thanking the people for providing her party with a thumping victory, Banerjee said in a post on a social networking site, “On the momentous occasion of completion of three years in office, we express our deep gratitude to Maa, Maati, Manush (mother, motherland and people) of Bengal for giving us their overwhelming mandate to serve them.”

Noting that “history repeats itself”, Banerjee further said, “Once again, the people of Bengal have reposed their trust and confidence in us through their huge mandate in the recently-concluded Lok Sabha election.”

“We bow our heads down with gratefulness,” she said, addressing the people of the state. The Trinamool Congress had won 185 of the 294 seats in the 2011 state Assembly elections and added a few more seats to its coffer in the by-elections.

To mark the occasion of the party being in power in the state for three years, the state government conferred the state’s highest civilian awards ‘Bangabibhusan’ and ‘Bangabhusan’ to 33 people from different walks of life for their “outstanding contribution” in respective fields at a glittering ceremony in the city.
