Kerala’s Leader of the Opposition V S Achuthanandan on Wednesday said the Left Democratic Front (LDF) was set for an impressive victory in the 16th Lok Sabha elections.

“Exit poll predictions on results in Kerala could not be termed authentic,” Achuthanandan told reporters here. The opposition leader’s remarks come in the backdrop of exit poll results that gave the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) an upper-hand in the election in Kerala. CPM general secretary Prakash Karat had earlier dismissed the exit poll results citing their lack of “credibility”. Results of exit polls conducted by major national media houses have predicted a victory for the ruling UDF.

Meanwhile, a local post-poll survey conducted by Reporter TV and the Centre for Electoral Studies (CES) has struck a different note, predicting a victory for the LDF. According to the survey, the LDF is set to win 12 of the 20 seats with the UDF winning the rest.

According to the survey, the LDF is set for a marginal hike in vote share compared to the 2011 Assembly election (44.9 per cent to 45 per cent) and the UDF will end up with a fall (45.8 per cent to 43.2 per cent).
