There really aren't that many options for these subjects in the city.

The other four universities in the capital offering undergraduate courses are Jawaharlal Nehru University, Jamia Millia Islamia, Indraprastha University and Ambedkar University. But a major reason for the rush for seats at Delhi University is that these varsities fall short – both in terms of the number of seats and courses on offer.

While Jawaharlal Nehru University offers UG degrees only in languages, the Indraprastha University teaches only professional courses. “We don't offer traditional courses as the university was designed to promote professional courses like BBA, BCA, BTech, Law and Mass Communication. At present we have 245 seats on offer for the eight undergraduate courses. As of now we have space constraints, but our new campus is coming up at Dhirpur in north Delhi,” said Surajit Mazumdar, professor of Economics and vice-chairperson of the admission committee. “However, even the traditional courses being offered at the university have been designed in a way that a student gets to learn different subjects of his or her choice even while majoring in one particular subject,” he added.

The university offers facilities like air-conditioned classrooms and IT-enabled teaching methods.
