Again Indian rugs, durries and carpets have always been popular. <br /><br />Another interesting way to add motifs is by bringing in an India-inspired wallpaper on an accent wall and you can even use fabric or an old sari as wall hanging,” says Preeta Dutta, owner and founder, Mirador.<br /><br />Another trend that has caught the fancy of many is the fusion of motifs of Indian art like Gondh and Madhubani on the wall with European or Moroccan style furniture.“If you have a simple dining table with a glass top, opt for table mats that come in a variety of materials ranging from cotton to leather and bamboo. For draperies, one can also use tieback with these motifs which are subtle ways to incorporate India motifs in your interiors. The use of trimmings with work is also a trend as it can be used practically on anything and creates its own unique style and finish. Creeping vines, paisley designs on bedding and curtains add grandeur,” says Vaibhav Jain, CEO, Deco Window. <br /><br />You could even consider adding some drapes such as sheer curtains in light and breezy fabrics with an added touch of block prints, particulary those in Mughal patterns, paisley or those rhythmic sanganeri designs. “When picked in white, cream, beige and the like, these drapes with subtle and soothing block prints is a sure shot way to enliven your personal space,” avers Sonam. <br /><br />However, while doing so, ensure that there is a balance between the visual and textual aesthetic. This is particularly important when using traditional themes. “This is chiefly because the right harmony is not only associated with colours, but also with different textures and elements that surround you,” elaborates Varalaxmi. To create a balance, you can try mixing various elements and textures together. For instance, you can mix wooden floors and bamboo blinds along with other textures to create something that is truly calming.<br /><br />However, if you want to offset the heavy traditional motifs, you can <br />consider pairing them with contemporary designs. “The allure of Indian patterns, combined with latest designs can give any home a sophisticated and classy look. While it may sound great in theory, keep in mind that it can be tricky to combine traditional Indian motifs with a contemporary design. <br /><br />“This is because Indian motifs can be vibrant in nature. You can use a <br />traditional design strategy and combine a plain background on the walls and floor with paisley or other Indian patterned designs into your furniture upholstery,” says Krsna Mehta, design director, India Circus.
