2 AAP MLAs file plaint against Bassi

They approach Vigilance with corruption charge

The ruling AAP on Monday stepped up its campaign against Police Commissioner B S Bassi over alleged corruption with two party legislators filing a complaint with the police Vigilance Department.

Greater Kailash MLA Saurabh Bhardwaj and Malviya Nagar Somnath Bharti gave the complaint to the Vigilance Department alleging wrongdoing by Bassi in connection with allotment of a flat in a cooperative group housing society.

The police chief has denied all allegations of corruption and even threatened to take the “dishonest” to the “grave”.

The AAP leaders in the complaint alleged that Bassi shielded wrongdoers by taking undue advantage of his position.

“The complaint is in reference with the incident of Commissioner B S Bassi’s brother Ravi Bassi hindering and obstructing Delhi government officials from carrying out their duties. He not just obstructed with the work of the officials but also threatened them to stay away from their duty and responsibilities,” said Bhardwaj.

He said the Delhi government officials tried to complain to police about Ravi Bassi but pressure from none other than Bassi was preventing police officials from taking action against the alleged offender.

An AAP statement said that on November 26, three officials of the Registrar of Cooperative Societies complained to the Prashant Vihar Police station about the incident, but no action has been initiated till date.

The officers of the Registrar of Cooperative Societies were on their work to inspect the working of a Rohini-based Lucky Home Co-operative Society on November 23 when this incident happened, it said.

When the officials were on their inspection work, Ravi Bassi allegedly came to the scene and abused the officials and threatened them with dire consequences, the AAP statement said.

“Such incident of someone going berserk on government officials to protect the guilty under the influence of his Delhi Police connections is alarming. The guilty need to be booked and the person protecting him should also face the law,” said the AAP statement.

This latest run-in between Bassi and the AAP is part of ongoing friction with the party alleging that the Delhi Police were targeting and arresting their MLAs under the central government’s direction.

Bharti was recently arrested in a case of domestic violence and attempt to murder his estranged wife Lipika. He was later granted bail by court.
