AAP fires more salvos at Jaitley, keeps row alive

Shoots five questions regarding corruption in DDCA

Continuing with its attack on Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, the AAP posed another set of questions regarding allegations of corruption in the Delhi District Cricket Association.

This came a day after Lokesh Sharma, managing director of 21st Century Media Private Limited, which the Aam Aadmi Party had accused of taking huge commissions in the DDCA affair, sent a legal notice to the party for making “baseless” allegations.

On Saturday, AAP leaders Ashutosh and Sanjay Singh accused Jaitley of fielding proxies or sending legal notices “through” them.

“He will have to come clean on the issue of rampant corruption under him in the DDCA. Instead of responding to specific issues of corruption, Jaitley is making his men send legal notices to us. We are not scared and will respond,” said Ashutosh said at a press conference.

The party kept the pot boiling by firing a fresh salvo of five questions, most of them pertaining to Sharma and his relationship with the minister.

“Since when have you known Lokesh Sharma. Please clarify whether Lokesh Sharma is your family friend or a business associate,” the party asked.

The leaders also questioned whether Jaitley or any of his family members ever held any position in 21st Century Media or any company related to Sharma.

On Friday, the AAP had said that the association had allowed Sharma’s firm to sub-lease 10 corporate boxes at Feroz Shah Kotla stadium, and claimed the firm was extended financial benefit to the tune of over Rs 5 crore for the deal.

“In 2006, you declared assets of only Rs 23.86 crore and in 2012 you declared assets of Rs 120 crore. What is the basis of six-fold increase in your assets in such short period? Which business model did you follow,” the AAP asked Jaitley.

Claiming to put forth new “revelations”, the leaders said that the DDCA records showed that the three companies - Stream Marketing Private Limited, Ultimate IT Solutions Pvt Ltd, Advent Trading Private Limited -- were paid lakhs of rupees for work at Feroz Shah Kotla Ground by the DDCA.

“Records of Ministry of Corporate Affairs, a minister under Arun Jaitley, show that these three companies have a common address in Delhi, which is U-23, Arvind Nagar. It is in Ghonda area of East Delhi and the verification reveals that three small shops are being run from the ground floor of this address; a dairy, a garment shop, and a dispensary,” said Ashutosh.

He claimed that according to records, one Naresh Chand Sharma is director of Stream Marketing Private Limited and the firm was paid lakhs of rupees for renovating Feroz Shah Kotla Ground.

“Same Naresh Chand Sharma owns the house at the address mentioned above and stays on the first floor,” he said

Referring to reports, Ashutosh said that Sharma is an ‘agarbatti seller’ and knows nothing about these companies.
