Aam Aadmi Party MLA from Kondli in east Delhi was booked for forgery and cheating on Tuesday for allegedly producing fake proprietorship documents and selling a plot that did not belong to him. No arrest has been made yet.

Manoj Kumar was a property dealer in the Kondli before joining the AAP. He is accused of accepting Rs 6 lakh from buyer Vijay Kumar before delaying the finalisation of the deal. Vijay has alleged that he found the property belonging to the MLA’s friend M L Verma.
In his complaint to police, Vijay alleged that he had purchased a plot from Manoj in Kondli in December last year and claimed to have paid Rs 6 lakh in advance. He was given the original proprietorship documents by Manoj in return.

“Vijay was told he would get the full possession of land when he paid the entire sum of Rs 21 lakh. He has alleged that Manoj kept delaying the finalisation of the deal,” said a police officer.

The complainant was allegedly kept away by excuses that Manoj was busy with the Delhi state Assembly elections. When he approached later, he said he was told to come after the conclusion of the Lok Sabha elections.

Vijay was initially under the impression that the MLA was indeed busy with elections and chose to wait for almost five months for the polls to end.

But since Manoj was not even willing to meet him despite the buyer being ready with the remaining cash, Vijay grew suspicious and decided to cross-check the documents himself. He claims to have found out soon that the plot did not belong to Manoj in the first place.

When the victim confronted Manoj recently, he was allegedly threatened by the MLA which forced him to approach police with a complaint, said the officer.

A case under sections 415 (cheating) and 464 (forgery)

of the Indian Penal code has been registered against the MLA at the New Ashok Nagar police station. Police said the matter is being investigated.
