Baby out of danger, but infection persists

Even though doctors at the AIIMS trauma centre maintain that Falak is not out of danger, she has shown some improvements in health.

“Tests show Falak’s haemoglobin count is 9. In earlier reports it was 6 whereas a normal human being’s haemoglobin count should be 12. However, in India even 10 is considered good due to high anaemia levels,” said Dr Deepak Aggarwal, associate professor, neurology, Jai Prakash Narayan Apex Trauma Center (JPNATC), AIIMS. Her infection still persists which is the biggest challenge for the doctors treating her.

“Her latest cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) test has again indicated infection in her brain. Till the time infection does not subside, we cannot proceed with other surgeries and treatment,” said Dr M C Misra, chief, JPNATC.

He added, “It seems Falak is responding to the medicines, even though at a slow pace. She has no fever and is also able to digest the food being given to her. So, the inference regarding medicines is positive.”

Refering to Falak still being in coma, Dr Aggarwal said, “She opens her eyes, but is not able to register anything.”
