JOIN USBJP MLA's wife in old age pension fraud: AAP
Aam Aadmi Party on Saturday alleged that BJP's Shobha Vijender, wife of BJP MLA Vijender Gupta, recommended ineligible people for old age pension.
Alleging that the fake pension scam runs into hundreds of crores, AAP said the Central Information Commission’s
Friday order reveals that BJP-run municipal bodies spent up to Rs 244 crore annually in pensions without due verification of the pension beneficiaries.
“In this order, shocking details about massive irregularities in pension schemes run by North Delhi Municipal Corporation have come to light, involving the BJP councillor of Rohini area and wife of Mr Gupta, Mrs Shobha Vijender,” an AAP statement said.
Reason
A woman was approved disability pension in what CIC order described as “glaring violation of income norms”. “There was an endorsement and signature by the area councillor Ms Shobha Vijender along with a seal of approval,” the commission said, adding that she recommended an ineligible applicant for pension.
The woman pensioner’s application understated family income, AAP said.
Clear stand
The party demanded the Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Vijender Gupta to make clear his stand on the MCD pension scam.
“Will Mr Gupta resign taking its moral responsibility and demand an independed inquiry? Will Mrs Gupta resign? If Mr and Mrs Gupta doesn’t resign, will Mr Modi sack them to save the face of his party,” the AAP statement said.
The party said it will seek legal opinion in the alleged corruption case.
In each of 272 wards in the three MCDs, 750 persons are getting pensions (both disability and old age pension), according to the AAP.
Later on Saturday evening, Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay said the BJP-run MCDs face “extreme hostility” from the AAP.
“No blot of corruption has been proven against civic bodies in the last 9 years as mentioned in the past,” he said.
