JOIN USDoctors at the Delhi government-run Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital went on a flash strike for two hours after a patient’s attendant attacked a resident doctor on Saturday morning.
A patient suffering from a heart attack died at the hospital emergency within one hour of being brought to the hospital. After the patient expired, one of the patient’s attendants allegedly attacked a junior resident doctor and a scuffle ensued.
The attendant then snatched away the doctor’s bike keys away, alleged doctors. “The patient died of myocardial infarction. He was duly attended to. But soon after the patient’s death, the attendant started misbehaving with a junior resident doctor outside emergency and also snatched away his bike keys. An FIR has been lodged in the case,” said Dr Harshit, vice president, resident doctors association, DCBH. Following this, the doctors went on strike for two hours demanding better security measures.
“The hospital administrator promised us that it will look into our grievances, following which we resumed work. We did not want to inconvenience patients. The hospital has promised us deployment of more number of security guards, separate exit points for doctors in emergency department and one attendant per patient,” said Dr Harshit.
The attack comes close on the heels of a patient attendant assaulting doctors at Lady Hardinge Medical College after a three-year-old child died at the emergency ward on Thursday morning.
Resident doctors at the hospital struck work and called off the strike only after the hospital authorities promised more bouncers and security guards on the hospital premises.
