Delhi govt to use DUSIB land for schools, hospitals

Construction of 9,780 low cost houses under JNNURM has also been approved: Dikshit

Grappling with the problem of paucity of land, Delhi government on Thursday decided to make use of land available with Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) for its various projects.

Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit revealed that it has now been decided to allot plots to government and various government agencies for construction of schools and hospitals.

The decision was taken in a meeting chaired by the CM and attended by Urban Development minister Dr A K Walia, chief secretary P K Tripathi, commissioner MCD K S Mehra, CEO Delhi Jal Board, CEO DUSIB Chetan Sanghi and other senior officers of all concerned departments.

“The Delhi government has long been looking for land for its various projects related to construction of schools and hospitals. We have been approaching DDA for this purpose. Due to paucity of land in Delhi, the construction of educational institutional and health related projects were held up resulting in deficiency in education and health services. As a result, we have now decided to use the DUSIB land,” said Dikshit.

Allotment of land for schools, hospitals and other projects of public interest infrastructure will go a long way in enhancing services to the people.

The chief minister clarified that such allotment will only be restricted to government and its agencies.

Dikshit also said the DUSIB has given its green signal for award of construction of 9,780 low cost houses under JNNURM with an aim to speed up the work of relocation and in situ development of JJ clusters.

Out of 9,780 low cost houses, 4,060 are to be constructed at Savda Ghevra Phase-II, 3,560 at Savda Ghevra Phase-III, 980 at sector 16 B Dwarka and 1180 at A-3, Sultanpuri.

The projects are expected to be completed within 18 months after award of the work.
